The Fargo House is a project by artist and architect Dennis Maher.
Dennis Maher is an artist and professor of architecture. He constructs fantastic places from assembled fragments of the world, imagining and actualizing new possibilities for the built environment through the synthesis of art, design and construction. In 2009, Maher established the FARGO HOUSE, an immersive sculptural environment within his own house on Fargo Avenue in Buffalo, a site that has become a locus for creative, community engaged learning. In 2015, he founded ASSEMBLY HOUSE 150, a not-for-profit center for art, design and construction where he directs the SACRA construction skills training program. Exhibitions of Maher’s work have been presented at venues nationally and internationally, including at the Mattress Factory Art Museum (Pittsburgh, PA), Bi-City Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism (Shenzhen, China), Black and White Gallery and Project Space (Brooklyn, NY), Pulse Miami Art Fair, and Real Art Ways (Hartford, CT), and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, where he was the 2012-2013 Artist-in-Residence. Maher is a recipient of the NYFA Fellowship (2014), the Real Art Ways STEP UP Award (2011), the Black and White Project Space Prize (2010), a NYSCA Independent Projects Grant (2010), and a MacDowell Colony Fellowship (2008). His work has been featured in NYTimes, Sculpture Magazine, Art Monthly, Architectural Review, and ARCHDaily. Maher is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at SUNY, University at Buffalo, where he has taught since 2004.
